Yup. That’s a squeegee. …and it’s hanging in my shower to remind me to obey God in EVERYTHING!
Huh? It’s very simple, really. See, we have a glass shower and if you don’t squeegee the walls and door, the clinging water droplets cause water stains, but more importantly…MILDEW and MOLD appear! (Enemies of a clean shower.) So, my wonderfully logical husband bought us a squeegee. The perfect tool to combat the “M” words!
However, when he travels for biz, I’m tempted to refrain from “doing the next right thing”, which is using the squeegee. I suddenly hear, “Oh, this once won’t matter. He won’t know anyway. Just enjoy your shower. Besides, it doesn’t help much anyway.” So I listened…and left it. No, mildew didn’t instantly appear. But what did, was my guilty conscience (thankfully)…that “still, small voice” calling to me amidst all the other voices trying to crowd Him out.
So now I shout back, “It DOES matter. Even if my husband doesn’t know, I do…and so does God and that’s all that matters. I’ll enjoy my shower much more, thank you, as I’ve already decided to squeegee. And, yes…it DOES help!”
Learning to obey, in what seems to be the “little” things, teaches me to obey in the big things. And I have come to understand, when it comes to obedience, EVERYTHING is big to God. I need to “do the next right thing”…no matter how I feel.
Proverbs 15:32 tells us, “An undisciplined, self-willed life is puny; an obedient God-willed life is spacious.” I don’t want to live a puny life. I like spacious living. “Puny” leads to mildew and mold. “Spacious” has me, with squeegee in hand, cheerfully attacking those water drops, obeying the One who makes me clean…inside and out!
