“There were sheepherders camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God’s angel stood among them and God’s glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.” As the angel choir withdrew into heaven, the sheepherders talked it over. “Let’s get over to Bethlehem as fast as we can and see for ourselves what God has revealed to us.” They left, running, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. They told everyone they met what the angels had said about this child. All who heard the sheepherders were impressed. Luke 2:8-12, 15-18 MSG
Ohhhhhhhh, to be like the sheepherders! Just doing their usual work, and a Divine Interruption causes them, at first, to be afraid. (Who wouldn’t be?)
But, since the angels had attended Heavenly Manners School, they comforted them with their words of joy and hope!
The second the sheepherders heard this astonishing announcement of the Savior Messiah being born, they “left running” to find Him.
Ohhhhhhhh, to be like the sheepherders…to seek the Savior. To run to Him and “see for ourselves what God has revealed to us.”
And then to unabashedly “tell everyone they met” about this Child. Response? “All who heard the sheepherders were impressed.”
God is still in the Revealing Business today! It’s called the Bible…God’s Word. As we seek Him, we will find Him, the Bible assures us of that!
Ohhhhhhhh, to be like the sheepherders and take off running, sharing the Good News, all along the way. They had been changed in an instant because of the Savior, the Promised One, the Messiah was born!
And THAT’S GOOD NEWS!! For the sheepherders. And you and me too!
