“I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me.
Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus.
I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.”
Philippians 3:12-14 MSG
What are you running toward? What goal do you have your eyes on?
We’re all running toward something. Promoted to a new position? To lose those last 10 pounds? To put more monies in your 401K for retirement?
Those are all worthwhile goals, but the Apostle Paul is reminding us to have ONE GOAL in life and to never stop moving toward that one goal. Sometimes jogging. Sometimes walking. Sometimes crawling. But always moving forward…reaching out for Jesus, who has already reached out for us!
That’s it! That’s our one goal. To know Jesus personally, passionately, powerfully and pre-eminently. One goal! And all the other goals will flow out of that one goal.
It’s not that you have already attained that goal, but you are well on your way. Jesus already made it possible, through the cross, for you to have a personal relationship with God the Father. So now you can take off running, holding onto His hand…never turning back.
This way you won’t lag behind, run ahead or fall flat on your face. As you hold His hand, your one goal, to know Him, grows deeper. You’ve gone from knowing Him personally to knowing Him passionately. Your heart leaps at the sound of His name. You want what He wants. Your desire is to please Him.
Then, you realize, as you keep running with Him, that He is your strength. Supernatural strength. You can run hills like never before. In fact, you have a new PR (personal record). You are now knowing Him powerfully.
And as you keep putting one foot in front of the other, you notice you are keeping in-step with His…He is now pre-eminent over each step, each decision, each minor goal. That means that He rules over your finances. Over your career. Over your personal health. Over your family. Over your marriage.
And those minor goals? Well, they now flow out of your ONE MAJOR GOAL…to know Jesus…PPPP! Personally. Passionately. Powerfully. Pre-eminently. Keep on! You are well on your way!
