“Exercise daily in God—no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever. You can count on this. Take it to heart.”
1 Timothy 4:8-10 MSG
Exercise is a good thing. Helps you get…and stay physically fit. Keeps the extra pounds and flabbiness away. Healthy living. Lots of benefits from working out!
It doesn’t help much, however, if you exercise one day and never move a foot or finger all week. You must be disciplined to gain the rewards of physical exercise. And that discipline pays off. Days turn into weeks. Weeks turn into months. Months turn into years. And pretty soon this exercise thing isn’t something you do…it’s who you are. It’s a part of you. Your lifestyle. You can’t imagine a day without some sort of running or walking or circuit training or lifting weights or…
Physical training and exertion help keep you fit right now. On this earth. But what about being fit forever?
That requires a different kind of work out! Exercise daily in God!
Instead of doing crunchies and the elliptical…exercise spiritually. This also requires discipline. Non-negotiable, face-to-face time with Jesus, everyday! Open His Word. Get out your pen. Earnestly pray…maybe even on your knees. Listen. Respond. As the days, weeks, months and years go by, you’ll be spiritually in-shape. You will become more and more like Jesus and less like your putrid self.
Just as your physical flabbiness gets toned up, so will your spiritual fleshiness.
God is making you fit both today and forever! You can count on it! Keep on exercising. The dividends are for all of eternity!
