Then he started at the beginning…pointing out everything in the Scriptures that referred to him.
Taking the bread, he blessed and broke and gave it to them. At that moment, open-eyed, wide-eyed, they recognized him.
Back and forth they talked. “Didn’t we feel on fire as he conversed with us on the road, as he opened up the Scriptures for us?”
Luke 24:27;31-32 MSG
In the midst of disappointment…major disappointment…Jesus shows up. He sees their long faces and asks, “What’s going on?”
They answer. “Really?! You don’t know? You must not be from Jerusalem! Jesus of Nazareth, who we put all our hopes on, is dead.”
So Jesus begins again, explaining the Scriptures to them. (Remember they have no idea that He, in actuality, IS Jesus!) Now the day is getting long, but Jesus still walks alongside these bewildered, yet intently listening, guys.
That’s Jesus, for ya! Always the long-suffering servant. Always the
One who reveals Himself in ways I can understand. In His perfect way
and timing.
He waits until I am hanging on His every word. I hear Him speaking just to me. No one else seems to be in the room. His words are intimate. He must know all about me as he is saying things no one else would know.
Then and only then do I recognize Him. It’s Jesus! His words are burning within me. I desire to know Him more…and after His revelation, He disappears.
But His Word will not return void. That’s a promise. So I am radically changed, as His Word is now life in me!
