“Don’t grieve God. Don’t break his heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted.”
Ephesians 4:30 MSG
Did you know that you can grieve God? You can break His heart?
He is Personal yet Almighty, Imminent yet Transcendent, Omnipotent yet Merciful, God-of-All yet Relational—and you can hurt Him. Breaking His heart should break yours. If you treasure your intimate relationship with Him, then be very careful to find out what He likes and DO IT! That’s called obedience. That’s pleasing the Father.
James 1:22 tells us “Do not merely listen to the Word and so deceive yourself. DO what it says.” And how are you able to consistently DO what His Word says? By the power of the Holy Spirit living in you. Living. Moving. Breathing IN you. God IN you. That’s your Source, your Power to do the next right thing. What a gift!
When you came into a living relationship with God, through the shed blood of His Son, Jesus, the Holy Spirit took up residence in your life, sealing you until the day of redemption (that means until you see Him face-to-face). That’s a HUGE deal!
The Holy Spirit IS your power. He IS your Comforter. Your Guide. Your Convictor. Your Counselor. He brings you into ALL truth. He illuminates your mind to God’s Word. He is the most intimate part of your life. He is making you fit for God. So don’t grieve, crush, injure, sadden, or wound Him.
He’s a gift! Treat Him as one. Value Him. After all, the way you received this Gift, cost your Heavenly Father His only begotten Son, Jesus—so you could be forgiven and free!
A free gift that cost God everything. Don’t grieve The Holy Spirit. He is continually making you fit for God.
