“Earlier there were a lot of priests, for they died and had to be replaced.
But Jesus’ priesthood is permanent. He’s there from now to eternity to save everyone who comes to God through him, always on the job to speak up for them.”
Hebrews 7:23-25 MSG
Don’t you love having an advocate? Someone who is on your side, going before you. Clearing the path. Making a way. Actually, making the way perfect.
Jesus is your perfect Advocate. Perfect High Priest. How did He become that revered title? He bore God’s wrath, so you and I could stand forgiven at the cross. He became sin for us. The once-for-all sacrifice, unlike the priests that had gone before Him. They died and had to be replaced.
But, not my Jesus! He crushed death at the cross forever, so that He could be my Advocate, my Defender, my Champion, my High Priest. Yours too! But only if you accept Him as your personal High Priest. Then, you may come through Him to God the Father.
Actually, He is thee only way, thee only High Priest, to be able to come to the Father. John 14:6 tells us (and Jesus is talking), “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father, but through Me.”
Jesus is my Great Spokesperson! When His Father asks Him, “Why should I allow this person into my heaven?” Jesus answers, “They came through me, Father. I am their personal High Priest. Their sin is forgiven, past-present-future, through me.” A smile appears on the Father’s face.
What a Spokesperson!! Jesus speaks up for me. He has my back! He is always my Advocate! Always pulling for me. And always on-the-job!
I don’t need to fear that I’m in right standing with God one day and not the next. Jesus has paid my debt in full. My sin debt that, quite frankly, I couldn’t even pay if I tried.
That’s why I need a High Priest. He goes before me. Has done what I could not do. Mine is to believe and receive His permanent Priesthood position in my life, as “He is there from now to eternity to save everyone who comes to God through Him.”
And I am an “everyone”. So are you! Jesus is your Advocate…just for the asking.
