“My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him.
You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve been taught.
School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving.”
Colossians 2:6-7 MSG
I remember my mom counseling me with these words, “Some people are so spiritually minded they are of little earthly good.” In other words they are so stuck in the ethereal, that everything they talk about never gets done. They never step over the line and actually LIVE OUT what they have learned. It’s like perpetually studying for an exam and never actually taking the test.
The Apostle Paul is sharing simple and straightforward advice…Get on with living. You have already been given Jesus. You have received Him as your Master, now DO what you’ve been taught.
Don’t sit back and continue ruminating in what you know. You are deeply rooted in Jesus. You’re well constructed upon Him. You have the foundation that you can build your life on! Start building. No need to stare at the architectural plans and drawings any more…just do what is already laid out in black and white for you.
Why the hesitancy to walk boldly? Well, it feels safe and comfortable continually learning. But you know your way around the faith. And that faith should catapult you into acting. Remember, “faith without works is dead.”
So put your faith to work and give yourself away. Jesus said that those who give away their lives…they will truly find their lives.
Purpose! Confidence! Bearing fruit! Much fruit! LIVE what you have been taught. And in that living, a grateful heart flows in and through you onto others on your walking path.
It’s that simple. You already have Jesus. LIVE Him! Do what He has taught you.
Remember how excited you were when school was out? And you put into practice what you know? You have everything you need…right now…His name is Jesus!
