“While he was trying to figure a way out, he had a dream. God’s angel spoke in the dream: “Joseph, son of David, don’t hesitate to get married. Mary’s pregnancy is Spirit-conceived. God’s Holy Spirit has made her pregnant.
She will bring a son to birth, and when she does, you, Joseph, will name him Jesus—‘God saves’—because he will save his people from their sins.”
Matthew 1:20-21 MSG
Quite the dream! God speaking into Joseph’s heart just when he needed it the most. Joseph needed wisdom. He got it. Joseph needed courage. He got it. Joseph needed the truth. He got it. Joseph needed assurance. He got it.
Just when Joseph was trying to figure it out…using his human reasoning…God intervenes with the miraculous. God was already on-the-scene before Joseph was. God had it already done in the heavenlies. His perfect way. God just needed Joseph to join Him in what He was doing…preparing a woman to house His Son, Jesus, for the salvation of the world!
So He sent His messenger to tell Joseph, “Don’t worry. God has this. Go ahead and wed Mary. No human had anything to do with her pregnancy…only the Holy Spirit. Oh, and Joseph, you have the privilege to name my Son, Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”
If that isn’t amazing enough, caring enough, and kind enough of the Heavenly Father to Joseph…think about Joseph’s response. Joseph had been keeping his heart ready. He had been a student of God’s Word. He had been obedient to what His Word said. He had been “doing the next right thing.”
See, in the ordinary of life, God shows up with the extraordinary…the miraculous! He wants to use you in ways you can’t think or imagine. He desires to bless you with His best. Oh, it may not be an easy journey but it will be THE BEST JOURNEY EVER. The outcome will be worth following Him every step.
Through Joseph’s ready, obedient heart, he was rewarded with the incarnate Son of God: Jesus.
Whoa! What a trade-off! And that’s what God wants for you and me too! Obedience always comes with reward. God’s reward which not only is for now…but forever!
