So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”
2 Corinthians 5:20 NLT
What a privilege to be an ambassador! I mean you are on an important mission as an authorized messenger or representative…not sent by the government…but commissioned and sent by Jesus Christ Himself! That’s a BIGTIME position that He has reserved for those who know and follow Him. We are His disciples—knowing Him personally, passionately, powerfully and pre-eminently.
And this is all His idea. His doing. He is making His appeal to follow Him through you and me! That’s sobering.
So, how am I holding up on my part of the equation? How well do I represent Jesus to my family and friends? Let alone those I bump into during my day? He’s trusting me to “be Him” no matter what comes along or how I feel.
That’s what an ambassador does. The ambassador doesn’t react to their circumstances, but continues to complete the mission that’s right in front of them. Doing the next right thing. And as our co-workers, neighbors, family, and friends keep watching us, they will inquire about our “ambassadorship.” That gives us the opportunity “to speak for Christ when we plead, Come back to God.”
“God has given us the task of telling everyone what He is doing. People are watching us as we stay at our post, alertly, unswervingly. . . in hard times, tough times, bad times…working hard, working late, working without eating; with pure heart, clear head, steady hand; in gentleness, holiness, and honest love; when we’re telling the truth, and when God’s showing his power; when we’re doing our best setting things right; when we’re praised, and when we’re blamed; slandered, and honored; true to our word, though distrusted; ignored by the world, but recognized by God.”
2 Corinthians 6:5-9 MSG
Keep on keepin’ on, Christ’s ambassadors! We have the best “job” in the world. “We’re speaking for Christ, Himself, now: Become friends with God, He’s already friends with you.” 2 Corinthians 5:20 MSG
