I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. I praise you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word.”
Psalms 119:11-12, 15-16 NLT
The Psalmist has such commitment:
- I have hidden…
- Teach me…
- I will study …
- I will delight…but look at the major dividends!
Do I whole-heartedly commit to hiding His Word in my heart? That means to let His transformative word renew my mind, will and emotions so that I won’t want to let my “humanness” take over my godliness.
That needs to be my major desire, as this Psalmist is crying out, “I praise you, O Lord; teach me your decrees.” In other words, instruct me, order me and rule me in your ways.
God’s ways are so much better than mine… that I desire to delight in them. Really? Delighting in instructions and orders and rules? Yep, as I am “over-the-moon” filled with joy that He knows what is best for me. My job is to know Him more and then I can trust Him more.
See the more you know Him, the more you are assured, that no matter what…He is a good, good Father.
My non-negotiable face-to-face time with Jesus, every morning, has built-in dividends. So as I study and reflect on His ways, at just the right time, those “living”’words will remind me to resist the temptation in front of me.
So I will continue to dig into the Word. It’s the only book as you read it…it reads you. God’s living and active Word…just for me. Just for you. He promises it will not return void.
Study on…
