“The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out.
But I, God, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things.
I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.”
Jeremiah 17:9, 10 MSG
Aren’t you glad that God can get to the root of things? That means He digs deep. He has to—to be able to get past all the dirt and expose
the root.
He can see through your exterior, your facade, right into your heart and mind. And that’s a very good thing, as the Prophet Jeremiah tells us, “the heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle no one can figure out.”
But God can! He gets to the human heart (mind, will and emotions)! And thank you, God that you can and do, as no one else is able to change the human heart but YOU!
Quite frankly, we would be hopelessly dark and deceitful without God initiating the search-and-rescue of our heart and mind. He sees through all the pretenses. He already knows the solution to the puzzle.
So when you pretend to be “right” with God—God, who has already searched your heart and mind, treats you as you really are—no matter how much you pretend to be okay. You’re trying to convince yourself that your heart and mind are basically good.
But the acceptance that your heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, and ONLY GOD can get to the heart of a human, specifically, your heart is VICTORY!
Only then can God go to work—digging deep—revealing the wickedness and deceit—changing our hearts and minds into His!
