Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, “I am only joking.” Proverbs 26:18-19
Words matter. Every word that comes out of your mouth matters. After all, you had to first think it before you said it. So don’t deceive yourself by saying, “I’m only joking.” Yeah. Right.
Our words need to get into agreement with God…not having God get into agreement with what you say. Words either connect us to God and to each other OR tear us apart.
Think about all the people you have talked to today. If there was a disconnect, either your words or their words caused it. Some of us have difficult relationships because of our difficult mouths. Putting others down for the sake of a few laughs is both immature and ungodly.
The wisest man on earth, Solomon, reminds us in Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
Change your mouth. Change your relationship.
