But the Message came through anyway. God’s Spirit and God’s power did it, which made it clear that your life of faith is a response to God’s power, not to some fancy mental or emotional footwork by me or anyone else.
1st Corinthians 2:5 MSG
When something is “clear to me”, I am settled. Not that I necessarily enjoy the situation that has been made clear, but I now have an understanding that I didn’t before.
Let’s say, I take an algebra exam, but I don’t come up with the correct answer. When the teacher shows me the formula to receive the right answer…it’s now clear to me. (However, at that point, I still got it wrong on the test.)
The Apostle Paul is making a point…that despite his human delivery of the Message, God’s Spirit and power went before him and “made it clear that your life of faith is a response to God’s power.”
How amazing is that! The supernatural working of the Holy Spirit. After all, God’s Word was written by the Holy Spirit, “though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:21b)
So, despite any fancy mental or emotional footwork, the Holy Spirit always breaks through and makes it clear. All I need to do, by faith, is respond.
